There are so many hardships we face as individuals each day. Each of those hardships knocks our emotional stability and sends us to a place where we are not happy. This is part of the human journey, one minute you are happy and the next upset. However, keeping our joy is something we should fight for. Never let anyone or anything put you down and make you feel inadequate.

As an individual, you should have a go-to routine or a personal pick me up that instantly lifts up your mood. A routine differs from person to person, some people listen to certain genres of music in the morning while they get ready to take on the day. Other say a prayer before they step out of the house and that makes them feel like they can conquer the world.

Some people meditate and some read daily affirmations. That thing you do that lifts up your mood needs to be a constant non-negotiable in your life. There is no formula when it comes to mental and emotional stability, but it’s a choice and an action that each individual takes towards ensuring that they are happy and content.

It is pivotal that each individual finds time in their busy day to pull themselves towards themselves. This needs to be your selfish time, where you converse with yourself and tell yourself how great you are. Time alone with your self should be a priority like everything else in your life. You need time alone to get to know yourself better because as you grow older, you change as an individual and certain habits or company that you might have enjoyed in the past wouldn’t be so pleasant anymore.

Be selfish, create your own happy place and be your own happy place. Motivational speaker and businesswoman Lisa Nichols said that in order to birth the women she was becoming, she had to die to her former self. This means that she had to let go of everything she knew and start afresh. She would wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and tell herself how much she was in love with who she was.

Speak in front of the mirror and tell yourself how you feel, confront those demons that linger in the closets and set yourself free. Fall in love with yourself first before anyone else can love you, the sad truth is that humans are flawed and make mistakes. So as an individual you need to ensure that you rely on your self-contentment so that when trying times come, it’s easier to get over it, forgive and heal.

An environment you spend most of your time in plays a huge role in your mental and emotional health. Where you go and the energies that exist in that environment will affect your state of mind and how your day is going to go. Praying or having a little pep talk with yourself before you take on your day assists you to start your day on a positive note and a positive state of mind.

Music cures everything, most people start their day by jamming to their favourite music just to get their mood right. Whether you listen to music that’s meaningful to you or something fun and quirky, whatever works for you as longs as it makes you feel great. Some people listen to podcasts with different topics of interest because they love to learn something new each morning.

Whatever makes you find your rhythm and puts a smile on your face, treasure and maintain it, this has to be a non-negotiable. That is how you will survive the most challenging times to come, it’s also how you will become a light in other people’s lives.
