DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to equip students with skills for creating successful design, while simultaneously creating a quality, varied portfolio of work. This is a traditional design course, working on the drawing board with conventional art materials.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND 

  • People who have a keen interest in visual communication (print & digital media)
  • People who want to acquire basic graphic design skills and ground rules
  • Lateral thinkers.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

  • A keen interest in graphic design
  • Art is beneficial, but is not a prerequisite
  • A steady hand, and lots of patience
  • Proficiency in English

JOB OPPORTUNITIES 

  • Work in print and the possibility to expand into digital media (web, CD-ROM, motion graphics)

MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED FOR THIS COURSE

  • Good quality pencils (HB, 2B, 4B)
  • Eraser
  • Bostick
  • Ruler
  • A3 Drawing pad
  • Thick black Koki marker, preferably with angled tip
  • Fine point felt tip pin (Fine liner)
  • Spray mount adhesive (spray-on glue)
  • NT Cutter
  • Scissors
  • Tracing paper (A3 sheets)
  • 1 black, 1 grey Pantone or Copic markers
  • Watercolor paint, good quality brushes, and watercolor paper
  • Paint mixing palette, water container, and rags or paper towels
  • Acrylic, Plaka, or Gouge paint (in primary colors for easy mixing or matching shades)
  • Different shades of heavier paper for collage work and packaging
  • Mounting board (for portfolio)
  • A3 Flip file or portfolio
