MAYA® FOUNDATION Background The course is designed to give students basic knowledge of Maya® Unlimited, version 7.0. Set over 12 weeks, students will cover most aspects of the software at a basic level, with a focus on theory as well as technique. Examples will cover foundation skills for modeling, animating, and rendering. Whilst the course is designed to be as comprehensive as possible, Maya® is a complex software application. Therefore, self study during the course and further study after the course will be required to master this amazing software.
Lecturer James Hall began his 3D career in a highly technical environment as the in-house designer for a mechanical and electrical engineering company. Using Maya and focusing on design visualization and building virtual environments, he excelled in both left-brain and right-brain functions.
Inspired by arguably the best digital artists today - Meats Meier and Michael Cox - James' passion for aesthetics and art moved him into the media world. With a solid Maya and 3D Studio Max base he began specializing in stereoscopic 3D and produced work for clients FIFA and Coca Cola.
Following his move to Cape Town, James became involved in special effects for film, and became a master of pre-visualization, which is a valuable asset to any good director. James is now the lead animator and motion graphics designer for eTV, recently re-branding the channel and winning Promax awards for his work.
James is highly passionate about 3D and the visual arts, and is an extremely proactive player in this field. Professionally speaking, the next logical step for James was to impart the knowledge and experience he has gained to the next generation of animators.
This course is highly practical and hands-on and, with the added value of learning from a practicing professional (not just an academic) students are guaranteed an experience of a lifetime.
Who should attend? • 2D designers/illustrators who are looking for an extra tool in their arsenal • 3D designers/illustrators who would like to learn another application • Traditional animators who would like to learn 3D animation
