 SKILL: Academic Manager
Anita Kruger
Lecturer Anita has a varied academic background with a Bachelor of Architectural Studies from UCT and a Bachelor of Arts (Motion Picture Medium) from AFDA. She also completed courses in Television Journalism, Documentary Writing, Basic Editing and Writing for Children. She started her career in the Film Industry by producing and directing magazine inserts for Cape Town Tourism Television, Cape at 6, and Pasella. She then joined the commercial service industry as Head of Research at Maximum Films. In this position she had to give logistical information and creative support to the production department in bidding and execution of projects with special focus on locations. After a study break and some work in Theatre Production, Anita resumed her career as a Line Producer at Atomik Pictures, producing commercials for European and American clients. Here she honed her budgeting skills and gained on-the-ground production experience. She was also involved in marketing the company at the annual Cannes Lions gaining insight into the bigger picture of international commercials. Her aim as a teacher is to bring the Film Industry into the classroom and to take the classroom into the Industry, bridging the gap between the study experience and the work experience. As the Producing lecturer, she says, “Students need to be taught that they do not create films in a vacuum, but that they need to respond to audience and market needs.” She has a passion for a Well Told Story and is constantly looking for opportunities for the student’s stories to be heard and seen.
