This course was designed to address a very specific need in South Africa. With all the growth that it happening in Web Design, Interactive media and cell phone technology, there is a serious need for skilled programmers that can work with the creative teams to execute concepts and new initiatives. These people are creative in their approach to problem solving, but are not the visual artists making the visual/audio “front end” of digital media.

• Theory and practice of Programming for New Media (web, mobile devices and gaming)

• Scripting languages - advanced and in-depth application XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, MySQL, PHP

•Scripting languages - basic application Ajax, jQuery, Drupal, Ruby on Rails

• Apache Server Administration

• MySQL Server Administration

• Search Engine Optimization

• Web 2.0 Graphical User Interface Design Principles

• Web 2.0 compliant database driven applications for web and mobile devices

• game design for web and mobile devices

• Basic game development

After the completion of this 1 year diploma course you will be able to work as a junior application developer both locally and internationally. The knowledge and skills acquired during this course will also enable you to start your own business in developing highly interactive applications for private clients.
