Duration 2 year Diploma. Admission requirement A Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate or equivalent and a successful written evaluation with your application.
This programme takes students through to professional proficiency whilst cultivating a creative approach to visual problem-solving and preparing them for a career of working with images. Students are guided through a personal photographic journey in order to understand their potential within and to gain entry into the world of visual language and communication.
In the first year you will be introduced to the following important subjects • Film exposure, processing and printing • Camera anatomy • The darkroom • Visual literacy • Genres of photography • Studio lighting • History & discourse of art & photography • Digital application & Photoshop
Projects will be assessed in many ways but in order to ensure that you pass with sufficient credits to continue to the second year, you need to complete all term projects and assignments by set dates.
Practical projects include • Design • Portraiture • Landscape photography • Studio & commercial advertising • Photojournalism • Conceptual photography • Social event photography
The second year continues with more advanced applications of some of the first year content but in order to graduate and feel competent in all forms of photography, the following modules are offered • Architectural photography • Night photography • Photojournalism • Landscape photography • Fine Art & conceptual photography • Studio & commercial advertising • Industry liaison • Digital imaging with current software programmes • Darkroom theory & practice • History & discourse of art & photography • Career preperation • Stills photography on film sets
With this Diploma you’ll be equipped and confident to work as a photographer or writer in environments as diverse as the Fine Art gallery, film and television, magazine and news production, multimedia production, industrial design and fashion or as a freelance photographer in any of the above including wildlife, landscape, entertainment and portraiture.
