Duration 1 year certificate leading to 2nd and 3rd year Diploma. Admission requirement A Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate or equivalent and a successful written evaluation with your application. Art as a subject is advantageous but not compulsory.
Make-up artists work with all kinds of performers, models and celebrities. No two days are the same. If you enjoy variety in life, you couldn’t pick a better career. It can be demanding work, but it is highly rewarding. Motion pictures and other entertainment arts are all about making audiences believe—¬and the make-up artist plays a pivotal role in achieving this.
The one-year Certificate in Motion Picture Make-Up is highly practical. Students work on collaborative projects with students from our Film, Television, Acting, Photography and Production Design departments where they can apply the techniques they have learned in a realistic and professional environment.

Modules • The role of the make-up artist in Film, Television, Theatre and Fashion • Basic skin care and preparation of skin for make-up • Beauty Make-up , Make-up selection and tools, Corrective make-up - contouring, Facial arithmetic, Application of make-up, Styling • Beauty make-up for film and TV • Character make-up for film and TV • Fashion make-up for fashion shows and still photography • Theatre make-up • Basic hair styling • History of costume and make-up eg. Period make-up, Medieval, Egyptian and Oriental • The effects of lighting on make-up • Body painting and tattooing • Fantasy make-up and Avant Garde • Special Effects • Uses of products such as latex, collodium, nose putty and film blood • Special effects make-up including aging, bruises, scars, wounds, burns and blisters.
The Certificate in Motion Picture Make-up is the entry requirement for the two-year Diploma in Motion Picture Production Design. However, the one-year exit option affords students the opportunity to obtain a general industry recognised qualification that has credibility and is appropriate to the industry.
