Duration 2 year Diploma with optional 3rd year Advanced Diploma. Admission requirement A Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate or equivalent and a successful interview and written evaluation with your application.

Film & television production is a fascinating combination of creativity and high technology. It is a truly multi-disciplinary environment and you can expect a wide variety of opportunities and experience working in this business.

The two-year Diploma covers the basics of television, film and digital movie making. All aspects of the course, theoretical and practical, are aimed at opening the world of television and film dramas, serials, series and comedies to the prospective movie maker.

All equipment and consumables are supplied for compulsory projects.

The first year is an orientation year where all aspects of movie making are covered, including the theory and practice of: - Directing for dramatic narrative television and movies - Camerawork and lighting techniques - Scripting - Non-linear editing - Video production - Television and multi-camera studio shooting

Students also study various supplementary subjects including the aesthetic and communicative nature of television and pre-production techniques including budgeting, casting and scriptwriting. Projects are designed to give students hands-on experience in all of the fields mentioned.

The second year is an extension of the first year where the student can follow a field of specialization in one of the following fields as their major: - Scriptwriting - Narrative Directing - Camerawork and lighting - Editing - Producing

Compulsory minor subjects include - Film appreciation - Visual Literacy - Scriptwriting - Art theory

Graduates have careers in: feature films, short films, commercials, documentaries, television work, corporate video production and more.

There are plenty of creative and technical skills needed out there.

The students in Joburg were given this fun project to work on for Stoan, who is also a member of the popular band Bongo Maffin. This was excellent experiential learning and a fine addition to their showreel arsenal.
