 Werner Marx

 SKILL: HOD: Professional Acting for Camera

After completing a BA Drama degree at Stellenbosch University, Werner furthered his studies by doing a BA Honors degree at Rhodes University in Grahamstown. He specializes in creative movement and choreography, including a physical theatre repertoire. He has lived and worked in London for three years during which he performed with three different dance companies. He was part of the Spring Loaded dance Festival at the Place theatre in London 1996 and 1997. Since moving back to Cape Town, Werner has worked as an actors agent at one of the leading agencies where he gained valuable insight and experience into the Performing Arts industry of South Africa.

 

 Shirley Johnston
 COURSE: Professional Acting for Camera
 SKILL: Senior Lecturer

UCT trained actress, scriptwriter, director Shirley Johnston has appeared in over 30 film and television productions including ‘Cry, the Beloved Country’, ‘Heel Against the Head’, ‘Isidingo’ and others. Television credits include multi-camera directing for ‘Backstage’ and ‘Madam and Eve’.

She has worked extensively in the theatre as director and actress: roles include ‘Hysteria’ (FNB Vita Best Actress Award), ‘Shadowlands’ (Fleur du Cap Best Actress nomination), ‘Heel Against the Head’ (FNB Vita Best Comedy Actress Award), Wuthering Heights (Fleur du Cap Best Actress nomination) A Winter’s Tale (FNB Vita nomination) Dancing at Lughnasa (Fleur du Cap nomination). She has directed numerous stage shows ranging from intimate musical cabaret to huge Shakespeare productions.

Scriptwriting credits include ‘Plastics’, staged locally and in Australia (SACPAC Best Playwright Award), ‘Felix’ (Sithengi Writers Forum Award) and ‘Clean Hands’, screened at the Labia Cinema, Sithengi, and on Dstv. (M-Net New Directions Award).

Shirley has been lecturing since 1995 and has taught Acting, Directing and Scriptwriting at UCT, Stellenbosch University and Afda Film School.

 

 Pieter van Heerden
 COURSE: Professional Acting for Camera
 SKILL: Senior Lecturer

Having trained in Physical Theatre at Rhodes University, Peter has performed professionally with The First Physical Theatre Company and The Heel Arts Collective; both as Director and Choreographer. After completing his MA in Theatre and performance at UCT, with Distinction, he has developed his performance practice into live art.

His live art performances have been exhibited and performed at Festivals and exhibitions throughout the country.

He has recently been accepted onto the young artists programme at the NSA gallery for the 2005-2006 season.

 Lynita Crofford
 COURSE: Professional Acting for Camera
 SKILL: Lecturer

Lynita is a well-known presenter and actor. She has worked for the SABC and M-Net presenting a variety of programmes ranging from travel and magazine programmes to current affairs and regional news. Lynita was the presenter of Cape at Six on SABC 2 and was also a newsreader on Good Hope FM for eleven years. As an actress, Lynita has appeared in many stage and TV productions – the most recent being: Madam and Eve, Stokvel and Die Tamat. Lynita also works as a voice artist for radio and TV commercials and she has also appeared in a number of local and international television commercials.

Lynita is a lecturer in CityVarsity’s full time Acting Diploma.
